Secrets of the China-Vatican Agreement Revealed Using the Scientific Method of Newton

Marco Tosatti

Dear friends and enemies of Stilum Curiae, In recent days I received this email from a loyal reader of our site, who is also a careful analyst of the affairs of the Catholic Church in China. He wrote:

Obviously, I haven’t been able to read the text of the Sino-Vatican agreement on the appointment of Chinese bishops, but I wanted to reconstruct its main contents using Newton’s scientific method, who discovered natural laws from phenomena. Since I am well acquainted with the languages used by Beijing and Rome, which underlie the facts that emerged following the signing of the agreement, the contents will be easily decipherable. With this premise, if you are interested, I can send you the contents, which I believe to be accurate.

I responded positively; and I offer you the message that Jacopo Piemontese—as he signs himself—sent me:

Given that I have not had the opportunity to read the text of the Sino-Vatican agreement, I have reconstructed its main contents using a scientific method, starting from observations of the facts that emerged following the signing of the aforementioned document.

1) With the agreement, Beijing and the Vatican explicitly and reciprocally recognize the legitimacy of the two institutional authorities.

2) Beijing respects freedom of religious belief and recognizes the Pope as the spiritual leader of the Catholic Church; while the Vatican recognizes Beijing as the legitimate authority of the one China.

3) Beijing and the Vatican respect each other’s sovereignty, avoiding interference in each other’s internal affairs.

4) Episcopal candidates will be proposed and elected “democratically” from among representatives of the laity and clergy, then presented to the Chinese Bishops’ Conference and the Patriotic Association of Chinese Catholics. Once approved by the civil authorities, they will be presented—through diplomatic channels—to the Vatican for papal approval.

5) Meanwhile, the Vatican will no longer appoint bishops “unilaterally.”

6) Local church administrations will be collegial, in compliance with current regulations.

7) The Vatican will recognize all previously “democratically” elected and “consecrated” bishops, even without a Vatican mandate, for “historical” reasons.

8) Beijing will evaluate—in the spirit of democracy and collaboration pursuant to current regulations—the possibility of granting episcopal dignity to bishops unilaterally appointed by the Vatican in past years.

Of course, all decision-making powers remain with Beijing; however, the Vatican will only be able to receive communications regarding the names of episcopal candidates already “democratically” decided by the civic authorities of atheist and communist China!

Within China, the ruling anti-religious Party was very pleased with the Vatican, which renounced its protection of religious freedom, while instead endorsing the Chinese patriotic churches that demand independence and autonomy from the universal Church. These churches, however, depend on and submit to authorities hostile to the Lord!

It will be clear that the Vatican cannot reject the candidates promoted by the Chinese Communist Party in the name of democracy; otherwise, the Vatican will face serious accusations that the monarchy does not respect democracy and the Pope is opposed to the will of the people.

These alleged claims perfectly coincide with all the observed facts.
